A physician who had sought asylum in Germany, the suspect has a history of troubling behavior and is currently in custody.
Due to the gravity of the situation, Steinmeier chose to re-record his previously prepared address to reflect the somber mood and the urgent need for communal strength. His revised message is set to be broadcast on Christmas Day.
Steinmeier also touched on the recent political turbulence in the country, acknowledging the premature end of the coalition government. He reassured citizens that such developments do not signal the end of effective governance, as established constitutional measures are in place to address these issues. He plans to announce his decision regarding potential elections following the holiday period.
